Volvo features a rich history in the design and production of luxury sedans. The S60 carries on the tradition with remarkable safety, technology innovation, and modern styling.

Not every luxury sedan is the same, and the S60 continues to make its own case over the competition. Car buyers frequently ask us about the differences between the S60 and other models. Here, we discuss how it is different from the 2021 Lexus IS.

The 2021 Volvo S60 has better power and efficiency

The S60 offers many power levels. All-gas grades feature a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that outputs 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The Lexus IS also includes a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder in the rear-wheel drive IS 300, but it has a slightly lower output. RWD does have its limitations on difficult roads and changing winter climates, so each S60 has standard AWD.

The T5-equipped S60 is much more efficient, achieving a consumption rating of 10.0 L/100 km in the city and 6.8 L/100 km on the highway. The IS 300 RWD is rated at 11.0/7.6 L/100 km in the same conditions.

A major difference between both vehicles is the availability of a hybrid. The S60 Recharge includes one of Volvo's most advanced powertrains. The T8e provides 400 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque, creating an exciting experience. If you choose the Polestar Engineered variant, you’ll get even more performance, with 415 horsepower.

The IS 300 and 350 AWD models include a 3.5-litre V6 that produces up to 311 horsepower. With the highest fuel consumption rating of this comparison at 12.2/9.0 L/100 km, it places the S60 Recharge in a different efficiency class at 8.4/7.0 L/100 km. Imagine the cost savings in gas alone while owning an S60.

The 2021 Volvo S60 places safety on a new level

The S60 is also racking up a reputation for outstanding safety. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rates S60 as a 2021 Top Safety Pick+.

Inside, the S60 features unique Scandinavian styling that takes comforts and refinement to new levels, especially when compared to the Lexus IS’s much more basic interior.
