Volvo introduces brand-new C40 Recharge
March 23 2021,
Volvo unveiled a second model in its all-electric vehicle lineup earlier this month, the brand-new Volvo C40 Recharge which is slated to begin production this fall. Based on the Volvo CMA platform, the C40 Recharge is the first-ever Volvo model to be designed from the start as an electric vehicle.
“The C40 Recharge represents the future of Volvo and shows where we are going,” said Henrik Green, chief technology officer. “It is fully electric, offered online only with a convenient care package and will be available for quick delivery. Getting a new Volvo was never this attractive.”
The C40 is essentially a coupe version of the XC40 Recharge. It features a bold design that is both recognizable as a Volvo and ground-breaking as an electric vehicle. Inside, a modern interior awaits packed with technology that includes an advanced infotainment system designed by Google and based on the Android operating system.
Like the XC40 Recharge, the C40 Recharge will be powered by a 78-kWh battery that offers an estimated 420 kilometres of range. 80% of that range can be obtained in just 40 minutes. Over-the-air updates will eventually make it possible to increase that range.
Volvo plans to have 50% of its global sales volume be all electric by 2025, and by 2030 every vehicle it sells will be electric. No question, Volvo has become a leader in electrification in the automotive industry.
