Volvo Cars to Integrate Prime Video and YouTube for Enhanced In-Car Entertainment

Starting September 18th, Volvo Cars will introduce Prime Video into its vehicle ecosystem via Google Play, making it one of the first automakers to offer the streaming service to its customers. The rollout will be conducted market by market through an over-the-air (OTA) update. In a subsequent update, YouTube will also be added to Volvo's Google-built platform.

Erik Severinson, Global Head of New Car Programmes at Volvo, indicated that these additions aim to enrich the growing portfolio of software and applications for Volvo drivers. "We are delivering on our promise of building cars that grow with our customers over time," Severinson stated.

Both services will be available as pre-installed apps, with Prime Video downloadable from Google Play and YouTube coming as part of an OTA update. However, it should be noted that, in keeping with Volvo’s emphasis on safety, video streaming will only be functional when the vehicle is completely stationary.

The move comes as Volvo seeks to improve the in-car experience for its customers, whether they are recharging, waiting to pick someone up, or simply taking a break. The availability of Prime Video and YouTube in Volvo cars will be limited to markets where Google's apps and services are accessible.

This integration underscores Volvo's commitment to enhance user experience by continuously updating and expanding its range of services and applications.
