The 2023 Volvo V60

The 2023 Volvo V60

When it comes to the world of the station wagon in Canada, you won’t find a longer standing vehicle than the Volvo V60. Since 2010, it has been hauling families with style and with panache and for 2023, it’s not slowing down.

Already a handsome car, Volvo has upped the ante by adding a new dark theme grille design, special rear bumper insert and hidden exhaust pipes. Speaking of hiding things: for 2023, Volvo has also hidden front-facing radar within the V60’s grille emblem for an unspoiled look when seen from the front.

Inside the T8 Recharge model, look for all-new Tailored Wool Blend upholstery that provides exquisite style thanks to contrast white piping but is also crafted from sustainably-produced wool and polyester. Other interior features include a gear lever finished in Orrefors crystal as well as a 9-inch infotainment display that now features Google Built-in. Built-in essentially turns your car in to a smart phone by providing on-board access to apps such as Google Maps and Google Assistant, so you never miss a meeting or have trouble making your way there.

Power comes courtesy of two powertrain types. One is a turbocharged and supercharged B6 AWD 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine good for 295 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission with manual mode. The perks of the B6 engine don’t stop there, however; there’s also a mild-hybrid system featuring a 13 hp integrated starter-generator.

If you want the full hybrid experience, however, then the T8 Recharge model is for you. It features that same gas engine, but with the added benefit of a lithium-ion battery pack and EV motor for a grand total of 455 hp and a skyrocketing 523 lb-ft of torque. This is one hybrid that will get you up and moving in a hurry, but when it comes time to slow down, will allow you to cruise for up to 64 km on EV power alone.

Not only does the 2023 continue the tradition of the Volvo wagon; it improves on it.
