2025 Volvo XC90: Refined Luxury and Enhanced Efficiency

Volvo has unveiled the latest iteration of its flagship SUV, the XC90, showcasing a range of improvements that elevate this already impressive vehicle to new heights. The updated model boasts enhanced design, advanced technology, and improved efficiency, reinforcing its position as a leader in the premium seven-seater segment.

Exterior Refinements and Powertrain Options

The new 2025 Volvo XC90 features a refreshed exterior design that exudes confidence and aligns with Volvo's evolving aesthetic as the company transitions towards full electrification. While maintaining its distinctive presence, the updated styling incorporates elements inspired by Volvo's newest electric vehicles, especially the EX90. At the heart of the 2025 XC90 lineup is the plug-in hybrid T8 variant, which now offers an impressive electric-only range of over 70 kilometres under WLTP testing. This significant improvement means many drivers can complete their daily commutes with zero tailpipe emissions. For longer journeys, the efficient gasoline engine extends the total range to more than 800 kilometres, providing the flexibility needed for various driving scenarios. In addition to the plug-in hybrid, Volvo continues to offer a mild-hybrid option in the form of the B6 variant. This model features a 48V lithium-ion battery and an integrated starter/generator, which can reduce emissions and fuel consumption by up to 15 percent in real-world driving conditions.

Interior Enhancements and Technology Upgrades

The most notable changes to the 2025 Volvo XC90 can be found inside the cabin. A renewed interior design enhances both practicality and luxury, incorporating Volvo's latest user experience technology. The centerpiece of this update is a larger, high-resolution central touchscreen that improves usability and introduces a host of new features and apps. Regular over-the-air software updates ensure the system remains current and functional. The redesigned front cabin exemplifies contemporary Scandinavian design, featuring a more horizontal dashboard shape adorned with decorative panels made from premium recycled materials. Vertical air vents and enhanced illumination contribute to the luxurious ambiance, especially noticeable during nighttime driving. Responding to customer feedback, Volvo has reconfigured the cabin to improve practicality. The centre console now offers additional storage space, including an extra cupholder, while the wireless phone charger has been relocated for greater convenience.

Safety and Comfort

True to Volvo's reputation, the 2025 XC90 remains one of the safest vehicles on the road. It features an advanced safety cage and a comprehensive suite of active safety features designed to protect occupants and other road users. These include lane-keeping assistance, collision avoidance systems, and protection against inadvertently running off the road. Comfort has been further enhanced with improved suspension as standard. Each damper now adapts mechanically to current road conditions, optimizing both comfort and stability. An optional air suspension system is available for those seeking the ultimate in ride quality, working in conjunction with an active chassis that monitors driving conditions 500 times per second. Availability and Pricing The new Volvo XC90 is available to order now, with production scheduled to begin in late 2024. First customer deliveries are expected to commence around the end of the year.
